Job Description
Position: Operational Foreman - Mow-Town
The Operational Foreman (OF) reports directly to the Landscape Manager (LM) of Mow-town, a busy and aspiring social enterprise. The OF is responsible for providing daily, in-the-field leadership and training to team-leaders and team-members, many of whom will be living with a mental illness but who are capable and eager to learn. Hard but rewarding work, your key role is to deliver quality services to customers and ensure your team does likewise.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and lead a landscaping crew on-site (1-3 workers typical)
Plan daily tasks and ensure projects stay on schedule
Perform and oversee:
Lawn installation (sod, seed)
Hardscaping (patios, walkways, retaining walls)
Deck work, repair and staining
Planting and trimming trees, shrubs, and gardens
Property clean-ups and maintenance
Operate equipment (skid steer, mini excavator, compactors, etc.)
Competent and experienced in safe use of landscaping and deck equipment, including but not confined to: mowers, weed-whackers, tillers, dethatchers, aerators, power washers, chain-saws, hedge trimmers, woodworking equipment, drills, sanders and saws.
Read and follow landscape designs and plans
Communicate with clients when needed on-site
Ensure all work meets quality standards
Train and mentor crew members
Enforce safety procedures and proper equipment use
Track job progress and report to management
Job Requirements
The foreman works with the landscape manager to deliver quality services to customers. Must have strong organizational and time-management skills, the ability to follow directions but also to use initiative and take responsibility for their actions, good record-keeping skills to manage materials and expenses.
Qualifications
- Driver's License - G
- Clean Driving Record
Specific Experience & Skills
3–5+ years of landscaping experience
1–2+ years in a leadership or foreman role (preferred)
Must have a valid driver’s license and CLEAN abstract
Strong knowledge of:
Hardscape installation
Grading and drainage
Ability to read basic layouts and project
Strong leadership and team management skills
Good problem-solving and decision-making ability
Nice to have: Plant identification and care
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks daily
Certifications (Preferred but not always required)
Equipment operation experience/certification
First Aid / CPR
