Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Landscape Maintenance Crew Lead to join our operations team. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in leading from the front, maintaining high standards, and ensuring properties are completed safely, efficiently, and to company expectations.

You will be responsible for guiding your crew day-to-day in the field — setting the pace, maintaining quality, enforcing safety standards, and representing the company professionally on-site. If you enjoy working outdoors, developing team members, staying organized, and being someone your crew and supervisor can rely on — this role is for you.

This is a multi-season leadership role, with opportunities to support winter operations as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

Crew Leadership and Daily Execution

• Lead daily start-up, confirm the day’s plan, site priorities, and quality standards.

• Assign tasks, set pace, and keep the crew productive throughout the day.

• Train and coach crew members on techniques, equipment use, and job expectations.

• Address issues the same day when they impact safety, respect, trust, or progress (firm on standards, respectful in delivery).

• Maintain a professional jobsite, clean work areas, and a strong customer-facing presence.

Quality Control

• Ensure work consistently meets Garden City standards (mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, bed maintenance, cleanups).

• Perform on-site quality checks and correct deficiencies before leaving the property.

• Identify plant health issues (pests, disease, stress) and report recommended actions

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce PPE use, safe work practices, and safe equipment operation.

• Run quick safety touchpoints as needed (especially for new tasks, hazards, weather, or traffic).

• Stop-the-line and escalate immediately for safety shortcuts or incidents.

Equipment, Materials, and Truck/Trailer Standards

• Perform and document daily equipment and vehicle checks (as required).

• Keep trucks, trailers, and tools clean, organized, and job-ready.

• Report breakdowns, missing tools, or safety concerns quickly.

• Track material usage (salt, seed, fertilizer, mulch, etc. as applicable) and request restock proactively.

Client Communication

• Serve as the on-site point of contact when needed.

• Handle simple customer questions professionally and escalate concerns, scope changes, or complaints promptly.

• Flag upsell or enhancement opportunities to the office/ops team.

Reporting and Admin Basics

• Ensure accurate timekeeping and job reporting (labour hours, notes, issues, and completion confirmation).

• Communicate daily wins, blockers, and needs (equipment, materials, staffing) to the supervisor.

What Success Looks Like (Performance Expectations)

Safety: Consistent safe practices, no tolerated shortcuts, hazards addressed same day.

Quality: Sites meet standard on first pass, minimal callbacks/complaints.

Efficiency: Crew stays on schedule, route planning and time usage are tight.

Leadership: Crew shows clear direction, accountability, and respectful culture on-site.

Reliability: Strong attendance, punctuality, prepared and organized daily.

Required Skills & Competencies:

• 2+ years landscape maintenance experience (crew lead/foreman and snow clearing experience preferred).

• Strong knowledge of mowing, trimming/edging, pruning basics, seasonal cleanups, bed maintenance

• Competent with common landscape equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.) and safe trailering practices.

• Clear communicator, able to train and correct in the moment.

• Strong judgment around safety and jobsite hazards

• Valid driver’s license with clean driver’s abstract

Working Conditions & Seasonal Expectations:

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions

• Physical role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs

• Work schedule may vary based on seasonal operational needs and weather conditions

• May be required to support winter operations including snow clearing leadership, equipment operation, site supervision, dispatch coordination support, or related winter service responsibilities where applicable
