Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY

Landscape construction is the production core of AHS: multiple crews building premium hardscape, engineered

walls, outdoor structures, and planting across the GTA inside an April-to-November window. The scoreboard is

simple: revenue per crew day, estimate-versus-actual hours, and work that survives freeze-thaw.

The VP of Landscape Construction runs that engine: the production board, the foremen, the standards, the subs,

and the margin, and builds the field organization that lets the company add crews without diluting quality.

ABOUT ACTION HOME SERVICES

Action Home Services is a premium outdoor design-build company serving the Greater Toronto Area: complete

landscape construction, custom swimming pools, and outdoor living environments, carried from design and permits

through construction, licensed trades, and warranty. While much of the industry contracts, AHS continues to grow

and invest in people, equipment, and new divisions.

• Approximately $20M in annual production, and growing

• Design, permits, construction, licensed trades, and a 10-year warranty under one roof

• A premium client base that expects, and pays for, execution quality

THE MANDATE

Production & Margin

• Run the production board across hardscape, structures, and softscape crews: work assigned in crew-days,

rebalanced weekly around weather, inspections, and material lead times, with a rolling 4-6 week lookahead

• Own revenue per crew day as the production KPI, with daily production targets tracked against the estimate that

sold the job

• Run weekly job costing reviews: estimated versus actual crew hours and materials, labor recovery, and gross

margin per job, with margin leaks killed mid-project rather than discovered at closeout

• Decide self-perform versus subcontract by trade, and manage the sub bench with seasonal capacity

commitments

Standards That Survive Winter

• Enforce installation standards on every job: excavation to proper subgrade, geotextile, granular base lifts

compacted to spec, bedding course, and edge restraint, per ICPI/CMHA standards for interlocking concrete

pavement and engineered specs for retaining walls

• Own grading and drainage on every project: positive drainage, swales, downspout tie-ins, and as-built grades

matching the approved plan

• Document base prep with photos on every hardscape install, and drive settlement and warranty callbacks

toward zero

• Run pre-construction handoffs from design: constructability, site logistics, tree protection, locates, and permits

before mobilization

Field Organization & Safety

• Hire, train, and ladder foremen into site supervisors and project managers, and drive industry certification

through the ranks

• Own OHSA compliance: trench and excavation protection, competent supervision, equipment operator

competency, and WSIB clearances for subcontractors

• Sequence integrated backyard builds with the pool division so trades do not destroy each other's work

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YEAR ONE

• All crews scheduled from one production board, with backlog quantified in crew-days

• Estimated-versus-actual labor variance inside a set band, and improving

• Revenue per crew day up season over season, with unbillable time measurably reduced

• 100 percent of hardscape installs documented to base-prep spec, with settlement callbacks down

• A foreman bench able to stand up a new crew without margin dilution, and zero lost-time incidents

WHO YOU ARE

• 10+ years in landscape and hardscape construction, 5+ leading multi-crew production at a design-build firm

• Expert across interlock, natural stone, engineered retaining walls, grading, drainage, and outdoor structures

• Fluent in job costing, labor recovery, and production-rate economics

• ICPI/CMHA installer certification or Landscape Industry Certified designations are an asset; Landscape Ontario

involvement is a plus

• A proven safety record and OHSA fluency

• Develops people: foremen get better under this leader
