Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
Building custom pools north of the frost line is a sequenced trade relay: excavation, steel, plumbing rough-in, shell,
tile and coping, decking, equipment set, startup, all inside a compressed April-to-November season and a GTA
permitting environment where every municipality's enclosure bylaw reads differently. The VP of Pool Construction
owns that relay.
AHS builds vinyl liner, concrete, and ICF pools as part of complete backyard environments. This seat owns
production: the schedule, the stage gates, the trades, the margin, and the quality standard a 10-year warranty
demands.
ABOUT ACTION HOME SERVICES
Action Home Services is a premium outdoor design-build company serving the Greater Toronto Area: complete
landscape construction, custom swimming pools, and outdoor living environments, carried from design and permits
through construction, licensed trades, and warranty. While much of the industry contracts, AHS continues to grow
and invest in people, equipment, and new divisions.
• Approximately $20M in annual production, and growing
• Design, permits, construction, licensed trades, and a 10-year warranty under one roof
• A premium client base that expects, and pays for, execution quality
THE MANDATE
Production & Stage Gates
• Own the production board from permit release through dig, steel, plumbing rough-in, shell, tile and coping,
decking, equipment set, and startup; no pool sits stalled between stages
• Enforce stage-gate discipline: plumbing pressure tests hold before backfill, steel verified against engineered
drawings before shell, electrical rough-in passed before deck pour
• Run job costing per pool: crew-days and subcontractor invoices against estimate, with dig extras (rock, water,
soil disposal) captured as change orders before the next stage starts
• Manage the trade bench: seasonal pricing and capacity commitments with excavation, shell, coping and tile,
decking, electrical, and gas partners, locked before April
Permits, Inspections & Compliance
• Own the GTA permit critical path: municipal pool enclosure permits, lot grading plans, conservation authority
approvals on regulated lots, and utility locates before every dig
• Coordinate ESA electrical permits and inspections, including bonding requirements for the water, shell, and
deck, and TSSA-licensed gas work for heater lines
• Enforce OHSA site discipline: excavation protection, open-hole fencing on active sites, and WSIB clearances for
subcontractors
Quality, Startup & Warranty
• Own startup and commissioning: equipment set, water chemistry startup, and homeowner orientation at handoff
• Punch every pool before the final draw; close deficiency lists fast and track warranty callbacks by cause
• Run the seasonal service cycle: openings and winterizations as a warranty-protection and repeat-revenue
program
• Sign off on buildability, site access, and dig risk with design and sales before contracts are priced
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YEAR ONE
• Every active pool on one production board with stage, crew-day forecast, and next inspection date
• 100 percent of plumbing pressure-tested and documented before backfill; zero failed electrical finals on bonding
• Job-cost variance per pool inside a defined band, with dig extras captured as change orders rather than margin
erosion
• Trade capacity locked before April; no peak-season weeks lost waiting on subs
• Warranty callbacks per pool measurably down, and deficiency lists closed within 30 days of substantial
completion
WHO YOU ARE
• 7-10+ years in pool construction, with 3-5 in production leadership at a custom or volume builder
• Deep familiarity across vinyl liner, concrete, and ICF construction methods, from structure through finishing
• Fluent in the GTA permitting environment: enclosure bylaws, lot grading plans, conservation authority review,
and ESA and TSSA processes
• A track record delivering complex builds on schedule and on budget through disciplined stage gates
• Strong crew leadership and licensed-trade coordination
• Pool industry credentials (CPO, PHTA, or Pool & Hot Tub Council of Canada) are an asset
WHAT WE OFFER
• A leadership seat with real authority, direct access to ownership, and room to build
• A company that invests: in people, equipment, and new divisions
• Long-term stability and growth in a consolidating industry
