Reporting to the Supervisor of Parks, this Parks Operator position has a focus on Sports Field and is responsible for maintaining parks, open spaces, streetscapes and other public areas which includes: grass cutting, edging and trimming, shrub/tree trimming, removal of litter and other trash, garbage receptacle and recyclable container collection including removal of contents and plowing and snow clearing, etc. Delivers, sets up/takes down tables, chairs, garbage receptacles and other equipment/furnishings in response to facility user requirements for both the Town and community sponsored special events and meetings, attends event if required to perform oversight and troubleshooting caretaking, cleaning and tear down responsibilities.
Monthly inspection and maintenance of ball diamonds, soccer pitches, and basketball and tennis courts, including: visual inspections and maintaining a log book of conditions and remedial work required. Weekly, monthly and annual checks of sport facilities, including repairs or arranging to have repaired any/all park assets, carry out turf repairs and turf cultural practices, and other duties as assigned.
Successful candidates will have a minimum Ontario Secondary School Diploma, coupled with three years working experience in municipal parks maintenance and/or private sector landscape and grounds maintenance. A valid G license in good standing. A thorough working knowledge of The Accessibility for Ontarians With a Disability Act (AODA); Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS); Ontario Building Code; Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA); Fire Code; Electrical Code; and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA); etc. Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
Preferred candidates will be certified or trained in Turf Management / Irrigation / Field Lighting, and be a Certified Grounds Technician from the Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (or an equivalent). A DZ or AR level driver’s license will also be considered an asset.
Salary Range: $60,528- $71,219/ annum
