Sipkens Nurseries is a family owned and operated Greenhouse and Garden Centre located in the Sarnia Lambton community since 1989. As one of the fastest growing Garden Centres in the area we are noted for providing exceptional quality, customer service and knowledge.

Our company has an opening for a full time, experienced:

HORTICULTURAL GROWER

The preferred candidate will work within the production team in a controlled greenhouse environment propagating, cultivating, harvesting, and transplanting trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals as well as providing care and maintenance for all products. This person should be familiar with spotting diseases or insects on plants as well as applying fertilizers and chemical and biological solutions.

Responsibilities:

Plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants, shrubs, and trees, using hand tools and gardening tools. Plant crops, trees, and/or other plants

Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs

Harvest plants, and transplant or pot and label them

Evaluate quality of plants and know how to spot disease or insects

Be willing to apply chemical and biological solutions to plants to protect against disease or insects or to enhance growth

Operate machinery and equipment to fertilize, cultivate, harvest, and spray plants

Regulate greenhouse conditions, and indoor and outdoor irrigation systems

Work alongside management to assess growing needs and plan for seasons

Work alongside wholesale management to ensure accuracy and efficiency during the shipping season

Job Type: Full-time, permanent

Wage: $15.00 to $20.00 depending on experience

Requirements:

Completion of a college certificate in Horticulture or a related field

1-3+ year’s industry experience

Bilingual (Spanish/English) would be an asset

Knowledge of irrigation, chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, pesticides and their proper handling procedures

Ability to perform general physical activities such as lifting, bending and standing for extended periods of time as well as working in diverse weather conditions

Enjoy working as part of a team

Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

A passion for horticulture and/or gardening

Reliability, organization and leadership skills

A desire to learn, develop and improve knowledge and skills
