Greenhouse and Potted stock production

 

Position Description

Under the direct supervision of the Nursery Operations Manager this position is responsible for the following:

  • Container stock production
    • Reforestation stock
    • Gift trees
    • Accelerated transplants for bareroot production
    • perennials
  • Establishment and maintenance of all potted stock held at the greenhouse complex
  • Cutting production

 

Duties include:

  • Responsible for the seeding, irrigation, fertilization, weeding and packaging of all plant products
  • Responsible for the potting, maintenance and growing of all potted stock held at the greenhouse complex including those grown in greenhouses and those grown outdoors
  • Coordinating collection, sticking and growing of all greenhouse cutting products
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate inventories and location mapping of all products
  • Working with sales to coordinate products for client pickup
  • Responsible for pest control including weeds, insects and rodents
  • seed stratification for products being grown
  • Responsible for greenhouse complex maintenance
  • Responsible for general cleanliness of facilities
  • Performs any tasks related to the duties indentified
  • Performs minor facility and equipment maintenance
  • Operates associated equipment
  • Oversees and directs staff as required
  • Performs other duties as assign

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing
  • Excellent resource management and planning skills
  • Excellent supervisory skills
  • Excellent knowledge in horticulture and grounds maintenance
  • Capable of operating various landscape equipment including tractors, mowers, hand tools and forklifts
  • Valid G class drivers licence in good standing with personal insurance coverage
  • Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in variable climatic conditions including heat and wet conditions
  • Ability to work on own and in a team environment
  • Structural Pesticides License for greenhouses
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Work in a safe manner and maintain good work ethics
  • Highly self motivated and positive role model
  • Able to work a variety of hours with extra hours performed during peak operations being taken off at slow time
  • Ensure all laws and nursery policies are followed
  • Must be willing to take courses and attend seminars to update skills as available

 

Safety and Hazards

  • General hazards associated with operations of various nursery equipment
  • Bending and lifting
  • Exposure to various agricultural and nursery specific chemicals and fertilizers

 

Wages and Benefits

  • Wage range is $22-$24 per hour
