Job Summary

The role of the Landscape Maintenance Operations Manager leads many teams simultaneously with the help of foremen/women and crew leads in all four seasons. The successful candidate will report directly to the general manager and owner. The above manager will ensure there is productivity, quality and budgeting compliance for their department and assume total responsibility over all operations for this division. All administrative duties for the teams will be performed in this role. The financial performance of the team in relation to the budget will be tracked and reported upon regularly. New business will also be captured and negotiated by the successful manager. Flexibility is required to meet changing needs of the business when required for this full-time, year-round, permanent position that handles all climatic conditions encountered outdoors.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Always providing and ensuring a safe environment and compliance with Ontario Health and Safety Act

· Ability to handle competing demands for multiple landscaping crews and various locations

· Service company’s clientele with a customer first always attitude

· Flexibility required to accommodate daily and seasonal business needs due to weather, changing team dynamics and to meet unexpected client requests

· Ability to motivate employees and provide a positive work environment

· Oversee seasonal staffing requirements, orientation and training of new personnel

· Providing proper follow-up with new employees weekly to ensure orientation training is provided and progress achieved

· Lead by example and willingness to step in and get the job done

· Experience handling all landscape maintenance preparation for all four seasons and ensure smooth business operations – summer, winter, fall and spring

· Ability to handle the operation scheduling and dispatching of employees and company equipment during all four seasons

· Monitor and examine the financial performance of your department and teams to ensure budgets are maintained

· Ability to identify training opportunities and areas of improvement amidst the team

· Recommend new practises and procedures for compliance and productivity

· Develop strategies to improve departmental financial performance

· Ensure employees adhere to company policies and procedures

· Plan and execute seasonal employee appreciation events for staff

· Ability to provide landscape maintenance quotations

· Attend meeting and events related to landscaping operations

· Ability to maintain and develop relationships internally and externally

· Occasional work on weekends as business needs required

· Ensure that company equipment is used only for business purposes only

· Always working in an ethical manner

· Other duties as required

Minimum Requirements

· Minimum 5 years experience as a foreman/woman in landscape operations/maintenance

· University degree or college education in field or related area

· Operational landscape maintenance and snow removal knowledge for a large team

· Ability to maintain equipment for landscape operations and submit work requests to mechanic

· Able to travel as needed between sites

· Ability to identify issues and challenges and problem-solve in a calm manner for best results

· Experience working with various landscape maintenance equipment and tools

· Comfortable using computer software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

· Able to plan, prioritize and execute proper actions given competing daily demands

· Ability to be diplomatic and skilled with negotiations to handle various situations

· Manage all staff accordingly while maintaining a level of confidentiality

· G Licence required - clean drivers abstract required

· Ability to work all year (not a seasonal position)

Nice to have

· DZ licence

· Able to operate equipment such as loaders, excavators, skid-steers

· Landscape construction knowledge

· Horticulture background
